McLauthlin Elevator Building is built.

1864

[1853-MLS] Architect: Daniel Badger(?). Designed in the Italianate style, it is located at 120 Fulton Street. The first building with a cast-iron façade in New England and one of five remaining in Boston, it was built for a company that manufactures safes. A subsequent tenant is one of the first elevator manufacturers in the city. That company moves to Cambridge in 1977 and the building is converted to condominiums in 1979.*
